Regardless of how you feel about Céline Dion, you must acknowledge that she has some pipes, and she puts them to good use on this song.
Yes, you must.
I liked Céline in her early English-speaking days, when she still didn’t know how to apply make-up. Before Titanic came out, she was fairly well-known and generally well-liked pop artist. After Titanic came out, and that popular ballad came out and saturated everyone’s lives for about year, she became a loathsome and much-mocked figure for some. She did overdo it with some of her gesticulating. But she remained a uniquely talented vocalist, and I think she’s taken a lot of crap over the years. Despite her reputation as a diva, she doesn’t seem to be in the literal sense. Other than being married to her much-older manager-since-she-was-a-pre-teen, she’s been untainted by scandal. So I think she’s an extraordinary artist, and she’ll be back later.
There’s my defense of Céline Dion.
Oh, and as for this song, well, it’s super-cheesy, but it’s also a great showcase for her.
