It’s a beautiful song, especially if you’re a parent, which I’m not. Billy wrote this Alexa Ray, his daughter with Christie Brinkley. I’m pretty sure I ignored the whole father-daughter aspect of the this song when I first heard it twenty years ago. I put it on a mixtape for a lovely young woman I had a silly crush on. I’ve always been lousy at hearing lyrics, even when every word is quite audible. (That’s why Meat Loaf winds up on the countdown.) Whomever you’re thinking about when you listen to this song, it’s quite a moving song. I think I’ll think about my pets.
